14 of 14 people found the following review helpful very bright light, very good deal., October 17, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: SpokeGrenade SG-1000e Bicycle Headlight Set (Misc.) Normally I would wait longer before writing a review, but seeing that there was only one review, I wanted to put my initial impressions of this light up so there would be additional opinions available. This light is incredibly bright for the price. Previously I have used cateye alkaline lights, always refraining from purchasing a rechargeable light because of the cost. When I saw this light at $89, I decided to try it out. I was also influenced by nearly dumping my bike on a recent night ride because I couldn't see gravel on the road with my old light) After several rides around town this week, I tried it on a night ride in the country where there would not be other ambient light. Suffice it to say, the light is great. I was quite comfortable at speeds ranging up to 25mph. (I didn't feel limited by the light, just my ability.) I have a vintage motorcycle that has less light output than this headlight.
Things I noticed about the light:
1) I was skeptical of... Read more
9 of 9 people found the following review helpful It Could be the Greatest Light Ever..., November 10, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: SpokeGrenade SG-1000e Bicycle Headlight Set (Misc.) ...but when it came in the mail, it left something to be desired in terms of the quality control. The individual items (lamp w/cable, battery pack w/cable, charger, O-rings, instruction manual, etc.) came well packed in a box with lots of foam padding. However, when I took the lamp out, it became clear there was something wrong. Some piece was rattling around inside the housing. It turns out there is an aluminum ring inside the housing of the lamp with two indentations which seem to be designed to thread the ring into the housing itself. Also, the two rubber seals (one black, one glow-in-the-dark green) were incorrectly placed. I used a large needle to thread on the ring, reassembled the housing with the seals correctly placed, and it seems to have fixed the problem. Ironically, there was a "Passed QC" sticker on the inside of the housing. As to the light itself, it is insanely bright on the full setting (there are three steady settings; one full-on flashing setting). When I first... Read more
8 of 9 people found the following review helpful Absolutely amazing!, October 7, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: SpokeGrenade SG-1000e Bicycle Headlight Set (Misc.) I took my first night ride with the SpokeGrenade SG-1000e yesterday evening. I also had my PlanetBike Blaze 2 watt attached as well. The ride took place on the new Neuse River Trail, a 26 mile paved greenway trail in Raleigh, NC. The trail has reached 7 miles and will be 26 miles once completed in the Fall of 2012. The trail runs parallel to the Neuse River. Riding the trail at night is very interesting since it is very, very dark and you have to avoid frogs, snakes (looking for the frogs), foxes, raccoons, possums and way to many white tail deer. All of these creatures head down to the river at night to drink and they all must cross the greenway to get to the river. I have been riding the trail at night using the Blaze for several weeks. The Blaze 2 watt is a fine product. It gives enough light to ride at 15 mph but anything more would be a bad decision! So what about the SpokeGrenade you ask? All I can say is wow! The SG is 1000 lumens. The Blaze is 170 lumens. The SG is amazingly... Read more
